The PDF Only option disables the structured e-invoice for this document. Billance then generates only a PDF without embedded XML data.
What Does This Mean?
Documents created in PDF-only mode:
- Contain no machine-readable XML data
- Are not compliant with ZUGFeRD, XRechnung, or EN16931
- Do not count as a structured e-invoice in the B2B context
When Does PDF Only Make Sense?
Within Billance, PDF only is mainly intended for cases such as:
- When your business partner explicitly expects a plain PDF for now
- For internal documents or working states without structured exchange
- For B2B edge cases where a structured e-invoice is not yet legally or procedurally required
- For small amount invoices if that matches your process
Important B2B Context
Billance is focused on B2B documents. If you regularly send invoices to businesses, you should check whether PDF + XML or XML Only is the better fit.
Important Deadlines
- From 01.01.2025: Obligation to receive e-invoices in B2B
- From 01.01.2027: Obligation to send for businesses above the relevant turnover threshold
- From 01.01.2028: Full e-invoice obligation for B2B invoices
Recommendation
For most standard business scenarios, PDF + XML is the best choice. It gives the recipient a readable PDF file plus the structured XML for automated processing.
