Account, Password & Two-Factor Authentication

Secure your Billance account: change your password, set up two-factor authentication, store recovery codes and end sessions.

Your Billance account connects your devices, your subscription and – if configured – your cloud synchronization. This article shows how to secure it.

Change your password

Change your password as soon as you suspect that someone else knows it. Use a password you do not use anywhere else and store it in a password manager. After a change, sign in again on your other devices.

Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) protects your account additionally with an authenticator app. After signing in with your password a six-digit code is required that changes every 30 seconds. Even if your password becomes known, it is no longer enough on its own.

Set up 2FA

  1. Open the security settings and select Set up 2FA
  2. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app; alternatively you can type the secret manually
  3. Enter the six-digit code from the app to complete the setup
  4. Store the ten recovery codes in a safe place

Recovery codes

Recovery codes are one-time codes for the case that you no longer have access to your authenticator app, for example after switching devices. Every code works exactly once. You can download, copy and regenerate the codes at any time – regenerating invalidates the old ones.

Do not keep the codes on the same device that runs your authenticator app.

Disable 2FA

To disable it, enter a current code from your authenticator app or a recovery code. After that your password alone is enough to sign in again.

Active sessions

The list of active sessions shows on which devices you are signed in. End a session you cannot account for and change your password afterwards.

What stays local

Your receipts and documents are stored locally on your device, not in the account. A secure account protects your subscription and synchronization – protecting your data from loss additionally runs through backups.

Using it in the desktop app

You reach the security settings through the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar under Security. Password, two-factor authentication and active sessions are in separate sections there.
