Setting Up Notifications

Define what Billance informs you about: categories, system notifications, in-app banners and do not disturb mode.

Instructions for the Billance desktop app on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Billance tells you when something important happens: a backup has finished, a recurring invoice was created, an export is ready or a validation found errors. You decide for every event type where you learn about it.

The three places for a message

  • System notification appears in your device's notification system, even when Billance is running in the background
  • In-app banner is a short hint at the edge of the screen while you are working
  • The "Notifications" list collects events behind the bell icon until you delete them

Categories

For each category you choose a level: Everywhere, In the app only, Banner only, Collect only or Off.

  • App feedback – confirmations and errors for actions you just performed
  • Updates – new versions and what is new in Billance
  • Backups – created, restored and failed backups
  • Cloud Sync – synchronization errors and conflicts with your cloud storage
  • Documents – saving, finalizing and status changes of invoices and receipts
  • Automations – recurring invoices, expenses and expired reminder deadlines
  • Receipts – receipt intake, recognition and assignment
  • Exports – DATEV, CSV and PDF exports and where they were stored
  • Validations – results of the e-invoice and data validation
  • Account & subscription – login, subscription and Premium status

Direct feedback on your own actions cannot be switched off completely so that you do not miss errors.

Do not disturb

Do not disturb suppresses banners and system notifications on this device. The events are still collected in the list so you can go through them later.

Across devices

With Cloud Sync enabled your category selection applies on your other devices as well. Without Cloud Sync the selection is limited to the individual device.

Reset restores the default settings. A test notification lets you check that everything arrives the way you want.

Settings in the desktop app

You find the settings under Settings → Notifications. There you additionally define in which screen corner banners appear and how long they stay visible. System notifications can be limited to the case where Billance is not in the foreground and optionally combined with your operating system's notification sound.
